Green thumbs are budding at Pineville Primary School. Thanks to a grant from the Ozark Society Foundation’s Youth Environmental Engagement Grant Program, students at Pineville Primary are getting hands-on experience with learning how things grow. Teachers say the grant helped them buy raised planters and various herbs and flowers to plant a sensory garden. The grant also inspired the local parent-teacher organization to get donations of trees and plant them at the school. And a local garden club designed and planted a butterfly garden around the school’s flag pole. Students are able to help water the plants, identify the trees and learn how they grow, and explore the sensory garden. Teachers say the various gardens and trees help kids put into practice what they learn about nature in the classroom. More things are planned for the spring. Just another great example of how teachers and volunteers at McDonald County Schools are making a difference in every child, every day, whatever it takes!
