Proposition KIDS, the no-tax-increase bond issue for McDonald County Schools is on tomorrow’s (Tuesday, April 5) ballot. If passed, it will allow the District to access funds to complete the following projects:
- Storm Shelters at Anderson Elementary, Anderson Middle School, Noel Elementary, Pineville Primary, Rocky Comfort Elementary, and White Rock Elementary.
- Remodel Pineville Elementary’s front lobby and nurse’s office and add classrooms and restrooms at Southwest City Elementary.
- Pave parking lots at Anderson Elementary, Pineville Elementary, Southwest City Elementary, White Rock Elementary, Mustang Academy, and areas around the High School.

The McDonald County School District is hosting a community meeting about the upcoming No Tax Increase Bond Issue titled Proposition K.I.D.S. (Keep Improving District Safety).
The meeting will be Tuesday, March 22 at 6:30 pm at the McDonald County High School Performing Arts Center.
Conceptual drawings of the proposed storm shelters at Anderson Elementary, Anderson Middle, Noel Elementary, Rocky Comfort Elementary, White Rock Elementary, and Pineville Primary Schools will be on display for viewing.
Other parts of the plan will also be discussed.
The public is invited to attend and learn more about Proposition K.I.D.S. which will be on the April 5 ballot.

We are highlighting the members of the McDonald County School Board of Education as part of Missouri School Board Recognition Week March 6 - 12. John Carlin is a two-year member of the board. He is an Agricultural Researcher and Intellectual Property Manager at the University of Arkansas. John says he serves on the school board “to serve the community and do what is best for the kids. It’s School Board Recognition Week in Missouri and we’re honoring the members of the McDonald County School District. Bobby Parish has served on the board for two years. He and his wife own Bob’s Hometown Pizza in Noel, MO and he also works as a telecommunications technician. Parish says “being able to be a part of making a difference in the lives and the future of the students entrusted to us” has been one of the most fulfilling parts of his time on the school board. “The fact that the taxpayers and the public have enough trust in us that they allow me and the other board members to represent them in this manner has also been very rewarding,” said Parish. As part of Missouri School Board Recognition Week, we are honoring the members of our McDonald County School Board.
Dennis Bergen has been serving on the board for two years.
He is the pastor at Banner Church of the Nazarene near Splitlog, MO, and a retired teacher from McDonald County Schools.
“ McDonald County Schools have given so much to me – wife, son, and myself have been employed here,” said Bergen. “It has been a pleasure to serve, and hopefully to give something back. Plus, I still get to be involved in the school system.”

It’s Missouri School Board Recognition Week, and we are honoring the members of the McDonald County School Board this week. We’re shining the spotlight on Andy McClain. McClain has been serving on the school board for four years. He is a teacher in Springdale, AR. McClain says the most fulfilling part of his time on the school board has been "...having the fiscal ability to increase salaries for the talented and dedicated staff in our district." We focus our attention on Josh Banta as we honor the members of the McDonald County School Board during Missouri School Board Recognition Week.
Banta is a four-year member of the board. He is the Director of Software Engineering for Walmart Technology.
Banta says the greatest fulfillment of his time on the board is “seeing us continue to find ways to get more kids involved in things they are passionate about and watching them do a fantastic job of representing our district.”

Chris Smith has served on the board for 12 years. He is an agency owner at American Family Insurance in Anderson.
“Many things have been good about my time on the Board,” said Smith, “But the most fulfilling thing has been to play a small part in shaping the many opportunities that allow for the successes that come through hard work by dedicated students & staff members. Seeing a positive impact in our school & community, in part, as a result of making the right decisions that benefit the community as a whole is very fulfilling.”

We are excited to celebrate our McDonald County School Board members during Missouri School Board Recognition week. Each one of them do a great job with putting the needs of students and staff first as well as being fantastic stewards of school resources. We plan to share a brief highlight of each member during this week.
Frank Woods has served on the board for 15 years. He is a loan officer at Cornerstone Bank in Southwest City. Frank says his greatest fulfillment on the board is "watching year in and year out how this district overcomes the challenge of 430 square miles of school district to provide a great education for our students."

A shoutout today to a McDonald County High School student who’s giving back to kids in his former school. MCHS Sophomore Sam Brewer set up a book fair for the students at Noel Elementary. The event was part of his service project for membership in the National Honor Society. Sam reached out for donations of books from teachers and friends. He received enough to give every student in Noel Elementary two books! He even had a stamp with his project name on it! Great job, Sam. Way to make a difference!
White Rock science teacher Keith Jones is in the limelight! He's being featured on local media because he's the Missouri Conservation Educator of the Year! The award is being given to Jones by the Conservation Federation of Missouri. According to the CFM website: "Keith has a strong connection to conservation and sportsmen ethics and he regularly gives the students a habitat-based approach to his lessons. Keith also utilizes MDC’s Discover Nature Schools curriculum and instructs his classrooms with a more in-depth view of Missouri’s aquatic life, food webs, watersheds, and the chemistry behind our water quality and pollutants. Mr. Jones introduces students to their local state parks, Roaring River and Big Sugar, with investigative outdoor lab studies of plants, birds, and so much more. Projects like these are common with Mr. Jones’ gifted student program. Initiated a few years ago, the SOPE Program, named after the combined words of “success” and “hope,” takes students into nature one week of each month."
Great job Mr Jones! An excellent example of how teachers in McDonald County Schools make a difference in every child, every day, whatever it takes! Congratulations!
We’re shining the spotlight on some of our Junior High band members from several different McDonald County Schools. The musicians in this group were selected for the all-district honor band and performed at the all-district concert recently at Carl Junction. Congratulations and great job!
