Recently, McDonald County Schools learned of a data security incident experienced by PowerSchool, a third-party vendor whose platform we use to manage student and employee information. Our school systems have not been affected. However, certain information belonging to our district that was stored on the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) may have been involved.
PowerSchool informed us that it became aware of this incident on December 28, 2024, and immediately began an investigation with the assistance of third-party specialists.
PowerSchool officials confirmed on January 27, 2025, that they will be reaching out directly to any individuals who may have been impacted and offering credit monitoring and identity protection services to those who may need them.
If your information was affected and your email address was stored in PowerSchool, you should receive a communication from PowerSchool within the coming weeks. We also understand that PowerSchool is providing notification of this event on its website and to media and state regulators.
