Central office staff of the month

The people who keep McDonald County Schools moving behind the scenes are getting a little time in the spotlight.

For September, McDonald County Schools has named its entire Central Office team as District Staff of the Month, recognizing seven employees whose daily work supports virtually every school, department, employee and student across the district.

The honorees are Kathie Mitchell, Sherri Hall, Renae Sherman, TC Banta, Tracy Jackson, Sandra Feregrino and Marsi Blecha.

The unusual decision to recognize an entire team came after principals and school staff members submitted nominations praising the Central Office staff for the countless ways they serve McDonald County Schools.

Again and again, the nominations highlighted the same qualities: patience, kindness, professionalism, teamwork and a genuine willingness to help.

“They answer a gazillion questions, solve countless problems, and are always willing to help,” one nominator wrote. “Most importantly, they are a friendly, familiar face every time I walk into Central Office.”

Another nomination described the team as “the heartbeat of our district,” noting that while much of their work happens behind the scenes, its impact is felt throughout every school and classroom.

The Central Office staff handles a wide range of responsibilities that help keep the district operating smoothly, including payroll, accounting, employee benefits, student records, federal programs, school meals, purchasing, technology and many other essential district functions.

Their work also extends beyond the regular school calendar. Several nominations recognized the team for the countless hours they put in throughout the summer, during breaks and throughout the year to make sure schools and employees have what they need.

“They are the least recognized and yet do so many behind-the-scenes things that make the rest of us look better,” another nominator wrote.

The team was also praised for its role in bringing people together through districtwide events such as the annual McDonald County Wellness Day and the Principal Retreat.

Superintendent Dr. Eric Findley surprised the Central Office team with the recognition, presenting each employee with a gift card and a printed copy of the Staff of the Month award.

The recognition serves as a reminder that the success of a school district depends on far more than what happens inside the classroom. The dedication and teamwork of the Central Office staff help create the foundation that allows teachers to teach, staff to serve, families to receive support and students to succeed.

For Kathie, Sherri, Renae, TC, Tracy, Sandra and Marsi, their work may often happen out of the spotlight. This month, McDonald County Schools is making sure they know their work is seen, appreciated and valued.

Congratulations to our Central Office team, and thank you for all you do for McDonald County Schools and our students.
