Hello from your School Counselor!
I am the school counselor here at Anderson Elementary and I wanted to welcome you to this awesome school year!!! As a whole school we are focusing on being leaders, while using the 7 Habits from the author Stephen R. Covey. These great habits, for children and adults, will be implemented across the building again this year. I will be teaching, or giving a refresher course, of the habits when I visit your child’s classroom and we will continue to review, and refer back to these to make each of us better people.
We will also be joined by Mizz, a Siberian Husky who has been trained to be a therapy dog. She will be in the building every day helping wherever she is needed. I will be using her to teach careers as well. Third through fifth grade students will have the opportunity to apply to be Mizz’s dog walker, groomer, feeder, etc. After they apply, using an actually application and getting a couple references, they will go through the interview process with an interview committee, until they are hired for the different jobs! Before your student decides to do this, they will have to have a signature from you saying it is okay. Your child will not be out of class very long to do their job, so missing anything will not be an issue.
Throughout the year I will be in your child’s classroom every other week to do different lessons about their social/emotional, academic, and career development. These topics can include making friends, how to handle yourself when you are upset, how to be a lifelong learner, and investigating different careers so the students can get an idea of a goal to go for!
Along with teaching your child every other week, I am also available for them to come talk to, be
encouraged by, or whatever their need may be! If the child has a greater need than I can give, McDonald County School District has a partnership with Will’s Place in Joplin, MO and they come down once a week to counsel the children who need them. This is a referral process, but can be accomplished if that is something you think would benefit your student.
Lastly, I am here to help. My job is all about the kids and helping them to be successful. If you ever
need to get a hold of me, please do not hesitate to email, call, or send a note!
Email (BEST WAY!): firstname.lastname@example.org
Note: Send it with your child to give to their teacher with my name on it and they’ll get it to me.
Phone: 417.845.3485 This goes to the office and she will find me, but please do not leave a message as I can not get to them at this time.
Let’s have a great year,
Miss Delana Munsterman (Miss M.)
