Prerequisite: English I
This course fulfills the second-year English requirement. It builds on the skills developed and explored in English I. A variety of genres such as short story, novels, poetry, and nonfiction are used as a backdrop for self-expression. Reading comprehension continues to be emphasized through Six-Way Paragraphs and/or the Buckle Down series. Vocabulary building continues through the study of roots, prefixes, and suffixes. Grammar is always emphasized in compositions of varying types, such as in paragraphs, essays, reflections, journal entries, and research reports. Research methods are investigated and put into practice.
